  • Special exhibitions

Four centuries in the history of furniture and home decor
The Jurahaus (Jura house) is a very particular type of house, which has been around since the Middle Ages and is still a distinctive feature of the Altmühl Valley today. Collections of furniture and displays of typical living quarters show how people used to live in these little parlours with low roofs. The exhibition spans four hundred years of history from the seventeenth to the twentieth century.

For example, there are simple wooden chests from the seventeenth century as well as a richly decorated Renaissance cabinet from Schloss Möhren (Möhren Castle). The guided tours will tell you more about the history of these items and others.

Castle exhibition
During archaeological excavations around the Obere Veste castle ruins in Treuchtlingen, a variety of everyday items were discovered as well as a great helm from the twelfth century. There is a display bringing to life all the comings and goings at this castle on the hilltop.

Musical instruments, school and toys
The Volkskundemuseum has an extensive collection of historical musical instruments, which you can also hear being played during the guided tours.

An old school room will transport visitors both old and young straight back to what life was like in a village school long ago. The dolls’ houses and play shops, hobby horses and dolls’ prams in the play room will bring back happy memories of childhood toys.

Museum educational service and guided tours for groups of adults
In order to bring the 7,000-year history of this region to life in an interesting and exciting way, a visit to each of the exhibitions can also be combined with excursions to see the sites of our town or to historic sites in the area surrounding the museum.

Action-packed days are put together especially for groups of children and young people to suit their particular age group and course of study during which children can experience life in the olden days for themselves. We would be happy to send you a copy of our brochure, which contains details of all the different programmes for groups of adults and school trips.
